Today's Bond Tip
Topic: When there are troubled financial markets, should I be concerned about my U.S. savings bonds?
Answer: U.S. savings bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government. Therefore, even in times of deflation the principal and interest on savings bonds will never be lost due to negative changes in the financial markets. Keep in mind the interest rates that are posted each May 1 and November 1 are for NEW bond purchases. Older savings bonds abide by the rules and regulations and prior performance based on when the bond was purchased. To learn interest rate performance for your bonds go to SavingsBonds.com/calc and review color coded, personalized, printable, Savings Bond Inventory Report or log into your account and review current performance.
